Structural brain studies of DTD show reduced gray matter volume in fear regulatory areas including the ventromedial prefrontal cortex, the occipital cortex, the anterior cingulate gyrus, the superior medial frontal gyrus, the insula, the parahippocampal gyrus, the amygdala, the orbifrontal cortex, the superior parietal lobule and hippocampus.
